Historic peace accord signed to resolve 60-yr Naga conflict

The era of insurgency in Nagaland comes to an end as India signed a historic peace accord with the rebel NSCN(IM) on Monday that promises a return to normalcy in the state, while making it easier for India to integrate eastwards towards Asia. The signing of the agreement was witnessed by PM Narendra Modi, home minister Rajnath Singh, chairman of NSCN (IM), the largest of the Naga insurgent groups and national security advisor Ajit Doval.

25 Congress MPs suspended for five days for disrupting Parliament, Sonia says ‘black day’

25 Congress MPs have been suspended from the Parliament for five days on the grounds of “persistently, willfully obstructing” the House. Speaker Sumitra Mahajan took the stern action under Rule 374(A) following which the suspended MPs will not be allowed to attend five sittings of the House. Sonia Gandhi expressed anger over the Speaker's decision and asked the Leader of Congress Mallikarjun Kharge to lodge protest.

Non-bailable arrest warrant issued against former IPL head Lalit Modi

Former IPL head Lalit Modi has been handed over a non-bailable arrest warrant(NBW) by a special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with a case of money laundering following a plea by the Enforcement Directorate(ED). Modi hadn't responded to summons sent to him by the ED which led to ED moving special court seeking NBW. The warrant will be sent to the Ministry of External Affairs which in turn will be sending it to the United Kingdom. Lalit Modi left the country shortly after the ED began its probe against him in 2009.

FSSAI-approved laboratory finds Maggi safe

Nestle's Maggi noodles has been found to be in compliance with the country's food safety standards, according to a test conducted by FSSAI-approved laboratory of Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI). The findings come after Goa FDA had sent the Maggi noodles samples to Mysore-based CFTRI for retesting of the safety of instant noodles after FSSAI expressed apprehensions on state FDA's initial report, which had found lead within permissible limits

Tata Group set to enter e-commerce, digital health

The Tata Group is planning to enter e-commerce business with its marketplace modelled on the likes of Amazon and Flipkart. Foxconn, Alibaba, Softbank invest $500 million in Snapdeal

India's popular online marketplace Snapdeal has raised $500 million after receiving funds from Taiwan's Foxconn and Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. While both the companies have invested about $200 million each, Softbank— the largest shareholder in Snapdeal— is infusing additional $100 million. It is learnt that the latest round of funding has come at a valuation of $5-6 billion. Flipkart is looking at a valuation of $15 billion.

Isro to launch US satellite in space for the first time

The US has become the 20th country to sign up for a commercial satellite launch by India's ISRO which has so far launched 45 satellites for 19 nations. For the first time the US would be taking the help of an Indian vehicle, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, to put one of its satellite in orbit. Having successfully launched a Mars mission, India is planning a mission to Venus and is looking for a launch pad.

Multi-Application Solar Telescope inaugurated At Udaipur

India's biggest solar telescope was inaugurated at Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO), which is one of the six GONG (Global Oscillations Network Group) sites in the world. The multi-application solar telescope possesses the ability of providing 3-D images of solar activities like solar blast and solar flares. It will also help in vital studies about other planetary movements. Funded by the Department of Space, the project will be under the supervision of the Physical Research Laboratory of Ahmedabad.

Two trains derail in Madhya Pradesh, 29 killed

In a tragic incident, several coaches of two trains got derailed over a railway bridge and plunged into the swollen Machak river. The trains, namely Janata Express and Kamayani Express, derailed between Khirkiya and Harda in Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the death of 29 passengers. The Railway Ministry has ordered an inquiry into the twin train derailments and compensation for the families of the victims. The real cause behind the incident is not known till now, although officials are pointing to the flash floods as a probable cause.
