Chennai city reels even as more rain predicted; airport closed, trains cancelled

For the second time in weeks, life in Chennai has been brought to a grinding halt because of flooding. The city received overnight rain that was the worst in a century, forcing the state government to release water from overflowing reservoirs and lakes around the city. This brought the floodwaters rushing through the Adyar River, which flows through the core of the city. Flights and trains to and from Chennai have been either delayed or cancelled, leaving passengers stranded across the country.

Seven convicts undergoing lifer term imprisonment in former PM Rajiv Gandhi’s killing are to remain in jail. According to the Supreme Court, Tamil Nadu government cannot unilaterally remit their sentences.
According to the constitution bench headed by Chief Justice H L Dattu, the consent of central government is must in cases probed by central agency and Tamil Nadu must take consent of Centre before remitting their jail term.

India successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear capable Prithvi-II missile, which has a strike range of 350 km, as part of a user trial by the army. The missile test was carried out from a mobile launcher from launch complex-3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near here at 1210 hrs.

India-Israel co-developed LRSAM missile successfully flight-tested

Long Range Surface-to-Air Missile (LRSAM) was on 27 November 2015 successfully flight-tested for the first time from an Israeli Naval Platform. The missile is co-developed by India and Israel. The trial test was undertaken by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in the presence of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) scientists. During the test the missile achieved the desired goal by hitting the incoming target.

PTA: India, Iran agree to open up channel for information exchange

India and Iran have agreed to open up a channel for exchange of information to start preliminary consultations for a preferential trade agreement (PTA), Parliament was informed today. In the first meeting of Joint Working Group on trade and commerce, which was held in April in Tehran, both the sides agreed to examine the scope and the feasibility of entering into a preferential trade agreement.

Pakistan hangs four convicted of Taliban massacre at school in Peshawar

Pakistan executed four men for involvement in the massacre of 134 children at an army-run school in the northwestern city of Peshawar last year. The hangings were the first executions of civilians convicted by Pakistan's military courts, which were set up after the massacre through a constitutional amendment.
