Pulitzer Prize: Washington Post and the Guardian win Pulitzer Prizes for public service. India-born poet Vijay Sheshadri wins Pulitzer for his collection of poems '3 Sections'

World's largest Gold crystal: The world's largest single crystal of gold worth USD 1.5 million, found in Venezuela.

Libyan Crisis: Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani resigned less than 1 month into the job citing threat to life, adding to the growing crisis after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.

India:

'Third Gender' status for Transgenders: India's Supreme Court makes landmark announcement, creates 'third gender' status for transgenders. Henceforth, transgenders to be considered under OBC category.

UK's Knight Commander rank for Ratan Tata: The Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday conferred the rank of Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE), one of the highest civilian awards in Britain, on former chairman of the Tata group Ratan Tata.

New Chief Justice of India: Justice R M Lodha will replace Justice P Sathasivam as the next Chief Justice of India by the end of this month.

Hate Speeches: The Indian election drama has reached its peak with leaders allegedly making hate speeches. The Election Commission has banned BJP's Amit Shah and Samajwadi Party's Azam Khan from holding meetings, road shows or processions in Uttar Pradesh for making highly inflammatory speeches.
