Karnataka gets its first IIT in Dharwad, classes from 2016-17

After a long wait of nearly 17 years, Karnataka will finally get an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) of its own in the city of Dharwad making it the last south Indian state to get an IIT. Classes at IIT Dharwad are expected to commence as early as from the next academic session i.e. 2016 - 2017 at a temporary campus on the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) premises.
